What is culture? Generally culture is considered to be composed of things that make up the relationships in society, ritual, style, entertainment, music and art.
How does Marxism interpret culture in capitalist society? As a scientific theory of class struggle Marxism argues that society is composed of an economic base and a superstructure that rests on it: what is thought of as culture is part of that superstructure. On the one hand culture is used to reinforce the capitalist status quo; on the other, a working-class and culture of resistance reflects peoples needs and demands.
